Fantasy Baseball Poetry:
Ahem, "Oh, Fair Plethora of such Sweet Dreams", a poem in iambic pentameter:
When once this league's fair gaming true began,
Our team was dubbed a long-shot also-ran.
Each day we sank to brand new season-lows,
Yet, hope still filled us each morn as we rose.
Then Magglio's left hernia grew ill,
And Melvin's one good hamstring served him nil.
Next Carlos lost his job, became a Hen,
We long to see him in Detroit again.
And Sammy, once the king of the HR,
Can not now even hit the ball that far.
Our closers just can't seem to get the hang,
Of being the guy there to close the game.
Our starters have their good games and their bad,
But keep giving up bombs to guys named Vlad.
The final straw in our "fait accompli",
And leaving us no way to more compete,
(Therein making our season obsolete),
Will be a trade out of the A.L. East:
A certain kid named Aubrey Huff will go,
The Mets or Dodgers to, the D-Rays fro'.
(His "A.L.-only" value will zero).
A pause for speculation here is apt
As we consider "Casey at the Bat":
"The hope that springs eternal in our breast",
Is all that we have left; have gone the rest.
Our only dream is that some sweet day soon,
Johan Santana gets shipped to the moon.
