Tofu Making
Well, I made tofu last Saturday. I took a bunch of pictures. Basically, first you grind up soybeans in a blender and a meat grinder. Then you pour it into a tub with an equal amount of water and heat it to 90 degrees Celsius. Then, you strain it through that white mesh. The part that doesn't go through, you don't use, although they said you can use it kind of like flour for baking things. So, the part that goes through the strainer is kind of milky--I guess it's soy milk, just like some people put in their lattes.
O.k., so you take this soy milk, and again heat it 90 degrees. Then you pour it into 1-liter jugs with 10mls of some sort of salt-water. You let it sit for 30 seconds, then pour it into those little wooden boxes with mesh inside them. You put a little glass of water on top so that it strains the liquid out, and what's left after a minute or so is tofu. You take these cakes of tofu and put them in cold water to cool them down, and in about 15 minutes, they're ready to eat.
