Peter:
Kiyochan was a bit off the beaten path, although it was easy enough to find, down in the Asumi area of Fujiyoshida. It was quite busy--one of the busiest shops to which we've been. The hiyashi udon was pretty good. The noodles were very firm and chewy. The vegetables were fine but salty. The karashi was not hot, but oddly sweet. The main drawback is that the juice in which the udon noodles sit is bland, but also salty. All in all, the firmness of the noodles barely overcomes weaknesses of flavor and spice, so that I can recommend Kiyochan. I might go back to try a hot bowl of udon and see if the broth is better than the hiyashi juice.
