Peter:
Wow, another udon shop with large quantities, and a fairly big menu. I ordered some sort of super-combination, as you can see in the pictures. It came with meat, wakame, veggies, and a stick of chikuwa (boiled fish rings). Keiko took the chikuwa, and everything else was good. The karashi was excellent--comparable to Miura Udon's. The broth was a bit sweeter than most, and quite tasty. Everything was just a bit salty, which is the way it should be.
Return Visit (May 8th, 2006):
The broth is too salty this time. Also, the tempura is plain, and tastes stale. If they keep this up, I'll drop them to a 7 next time.

Tempura: excellent - it was split into 4 pieces, about 4 inches in diameter.
Broth: The broth had a very nice flavor.
Noodles: The noodles were nice & chewy but not superb.
The karashi was nice & powerful.

Now, I change my mind.
I think of it, I did not enjoy the toppings.
I had a tempura udon. It was big tempura, but it has nothing but a big tanuki crumbs. So, why should I spend extra for the tempura?

Jason:
Menkyo Kaiden: The name of the shop is a pun, where the
kanji "men" for noodle replaces another kanji of the same
reading in a four kanji word that means "initiation into
the secrets of an art." A good name can be hard to live up
to, but the topping heavy yokubari udon (literally "greedy
udon") is a unique and special treat. I haven't seen
anything like it at other yoshida udon shops. A lot of
everything makes this one of the most satisfying bowls of
udon you can find. Good noodles too. I have to come back
and try the hiyashi: 9
